We started Alex's party at "Jump On It". We figured that 8 yr old boys would need to get some of their energy out if they were going to come back to our house and hold still long enough to do science experiments.
They jumped for an hour and it worked!
They were all tired out and the rest of the party went so well!!
When they got to our house they decorated lab coats with sharpies and then put rubbing alcohol on it to make cool patterns. They also got a pair of glasses for each of them. Grandpa Manning (a retired Bio Chemist) brought Dry Ice and was our official Scientist.
I made a Scientist cake with green hair and a labcoat.
Every year is a new challenge with cake maiking!
Alex and friends playing with cornstarch mixture, pretending that little plastic animals were caught in quicksand. We tried to teach some scientific principal in each experiment.
This one taught that if you are caught in quicksand you should not
wiggle but hold still to not sink as fast.
Alex and his friends did lots of experiments. Their favorite was putting Mentos into diet coke and watching it launch into the air 30 ft.
They also did an experiment called Elephant toothpaste. We had a friend get some chemicals from BYU's chemistry dept. and when you mix them together they turn into foam that shoots out of a beaker like toothpaste but much larger.
What a great day! Alex said it was his favorite party yet!
